TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker scathed Gov. Ron DeSantis over comments surrounding Illinois’ policies towards illegal aliens.

Specifically, DeSantis slammed Illinois for “letting illegal aliens become police officers.”

“In Florida, we took action to combat the harms of Biden’s border crisis. We also value our citizen officers who serve and protect our communities,” DeSantis continued. “As President, I will restore American sovereignty. No illegal alien should have authority over any American citizen. It is a sad commentary on the state of America that this is even a debate.”

Pritzker stood by the measure, saying he “proudly” signed the bill.

“[It allows] legal permanent residents & DACA recipients in IL to serve their communities as police officers,” he said. “Our military already does it & it’s the right thing to do—no matter what lies the right-wing spreads.”

DeSantis has taken a hard stance against the activity of illegal aliens in the U.S. and Florida, earlier this year signing a landmark anti-illegal immigration package.

The law makes changes to E-Verify, adds more money for an illegal immigration transportation program and increases penalties for human smuggling.

Since the bill was signed, later in May, a report emerged of undocumented migrants leaving Florida due to the new measure.

More recently, DeSantis organized with sheriffs across the country to battle the “Biden border crisis.”

During his run for presidency, his campaign launched a border control policy that involves increased usage of the military to secure the U.S. southern border, penalizing sanctuary cities and more.
