MIAMI (FLV) – One can’t help but see the pure joy on Johanna Navarrete’s face as she waved the American flag after becoming a U.S. citizen.

Through a translator, Navarrete expressed how “ecstatic” she was, feeling as if she had just “triumphed” to fulfill a long-time dream.

Navarrete said she waited eight years in her home country of Nicaragua until she received the correct paperwork to enter the U.S. legally.

Prior to that, her parents traveled illegally into the Unites States, leaving her to take care of her sister at home.

Her parents made the trek during the Nicaraguan Revolution because they worked for President Anastasio Somoza, and would have been imprisoned.

Navarrete said her parents received political asylum.

Once Navarrete received a green card, she made the difficult decision to leave her sister, who she practically raised, with family for the United States. Her sister could not make the trip because she was handicapped.

Since 1990, Navarrete has lived in the United States, raising a daughter, becoming active in her church community, and working diligently to save money to complete the citizenship process.

She told Florida’s Voice that even though her parents entered illegally to receive political asylum during the revolution, she does not agree with the masses traveling through their border.

She called the influx of migrants at the border “sad” and is afraid that they are not being “vetted” and are “delinquents.”

On top of this, Navarrete is concerned about the “dangerous” trek children are taking to cross the border. She is even more nervous about unaccompanied children crossing the border.

Navarrete is excited to now be able to vote for DeSantis as he is expected to run for president in 2024.

Her support for DeSantis is due to his family values, his wife’s experience with breast cancer, and the recent laws to protect children, which “captivated” her.

Navarrete volunteered in schools and appreciated DeSantis’ stance to protect students from being “indoctrinated.” She does not believe there should be blurred lines between boys and girls for children.

Even when Navarrete was not a citizen and did not vote, she previously supported former President Donald Trump, being impressed as a Christian woman that Trump brought in people to pray at the White House.

Navarrete believes the Republican Party is the only party “protecting children,” which ignites a passion in her to volunteer with the group.
