Jacksonville Beach Elementary achieves top ranking in Florida

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – Jacksonville Beach Elementary School achieved the number one elementary school ranking in Florida by U.S. News & World Report.

U.S. News ranked Florida’s elementary schools by evaluating them based on their performance on state-required tests, graduation and how well they prepare their students for high school.

Jacksonville Beach Elementary School was ranked number one in the state as well as number one in Duval County Public Schools.

With a student population of 598, 100% of students scored at or above the proficient level for math, and 100% scored at or above that level for reading, according to U.S. News.

The school has a 65% enrollment of minority students and boasts a favorable student-teacher ratio of 17:1, outperforming the district’s ratio.

The student body is evenly split with 50% female and 50% male students. Additionally, economically disadvantaged students make up 8% of the enrollment. The school is supported by 36 equivalent full-time teachers and 2 full-time school counselors.

  • Orlando Gifted Academy
  • Morikami Park Elementary School
  • Tarpon Springs Fundamental Elementary
  • Somerset Academy Davie Charter School
  • Freedom 7 Elementary School of International Studies
  • Henry S. West Laboratory School
  • The Sanibel School

Schools in each state were evaluated based on the percentage of students proficient or above proficient in state math and reading/language arts assessments.

Half of the evaluation by U.S. News considered the actual scores, while the other half considered the test results in relation to socioeconomic demographics. Essentially, the top-ranked schools are high-achieving and have excelled in educating all their students.

U.S. News calculated a single overall score ranging from zero to 100 for each school, based on their standardized scores on four ranking indicators. This score reflects how well each school ranked within its state on a percentile scale.
