Jax lawmaker Dean Black receives ‘Defender of Limited Government Award’

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Rep. Dean Black, R-Jacksonville, received the “Defender of Limited Government” award from the Institute for Legislative Analysis.

“Thank you to the Institute for Legislative Analysis for your recognition of our hard work,” Black said. “We will never stop fighting to make sure our government works for its citizens.”

The Institute for Legislative Analysis’ website said the Congressional Limited Government Index has “more unique sampled roll calls than the federal scorecards produced by over a dozen of the leading national advocacy groups — combined.”

Black, who is also the Republican Chairman of Duval County, received an overall rating of 79.61% with 57 votes.

Other Jacksonville lawmakers’ ratings on the scoreboard include:

  • Rep. Kiyan Michael, R-Jacksonville, received a rating of 80.39% with 56 votes.
  • Rep. Jessica Baker, R-Jacksonville, received a rating of 79.80% with 55 votes.
  • Rep. Wyman Duggan, R-Jacksonville, received a rating of 79.57% with 52 votes.
  • Sen. Clay Yarborough, R-Jacksonville, received a rating of 75.82% with 51 votes.
  • Sen. Tracie Davis, D-Jacksonville, received a rating of 31.71% with 46 votes.
  • Rep. Angie Nixon, D-Jacksonville, received a rating of 24.44% with 51 votes.

Rep. Jeff Holcomb, R-Springhill, received the highest rating among Florida lawmakers with a score of 84.04% with 52 votes.

Following Holcomb, Rep. Berny Jacques, R-Seminole, received a rating of 82.35% with 56 votes.

Out of the 157 Florida lawmakers on the scoreboard, Republicans’ lowest rating came to 63.33%, while Democratic lawmakers’ highest rating came to 48.39%, according to the results.

According to the Institute for Legislative Analysis, they serve as the premiere research institution for analyzing policy and lawmaker voting at the federal level and across all 50 state legislatures.

It is a nonpartisan organization and grades lawmakers based on the limited government principles of the U.S. Constitution.

The Institute for Legislative Analysis’ rankings of U.S. lawmakers contain 38,655 votes and 122 in-depth policy analyses.
