JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (FLV) – Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry sent out a strong statement after a biological female lifeguard trainee, who identified as a male, was topless at one of the city’s public pools in front of children.

“Our parks and public pools are meant to be a place where families can feel safe to enjoy themselves. We shouldn’t force parents of young children to be caught in the crossfire of battles over wokeism,” Curry said.

Curry said a citizen told his administration about the incident that occurred at Cecil Aquatics Center with approximately 40 to 50 small children and parents in attendance.

Florida’s Voice spoke with people familiar with what took place. The children were within 15 to 20 feet from the lifeguard training and the nudity was in “clear view.”

The female lifeguard trainee reportedly did not attempt to cover her breasts and did not have any surgery to remove or alter her female breasts.

“After consideration of the incident, I believe it is wrong for our public pools to be a place where Jacksonville families are forced to explain to their children why a person hired to protect public safety is exposing her breasts,” Curry said.

“I see no reason for our lifeguards to be forced to make changes to existing rules mandating that biological females cover their chests.”

The incident happened in a group of 21 lifeguard trainees, ranging from ages 15 and older. Florida’s Voice was told the situation occurred during the swimming portion of the training.
