HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY (FLV) – Republican Jay Collins won the Senate District 14 race against Democrat Incumbent Janet Cruz.

Senate District 14 encompasses parts of Hillsborough County.

Jarrid “Jay” Collins, a retired U.S. Army Green Beret and Purple Heart Amputee. As a Green Beret, Collins deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, and twice to South America.

Collin’s website says through his non-profit work across the country, it became clear to him that most Americans share the same concerns: they want their families to succeed, their children to have better lives than them, and to improve their communities.

According to his website, Collins lives in Tampa with his wife of 21 years Layla, and has two young sons, Gabe and Colt.

DeSantis endorsed Collins saying, “I’m proud to support Jay Collins for Senate District 14,” said Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Cruz currently represents District 18 in the Florida Senate, which consists of parts of Hillsborough county. The district had been redrawn in the last regular legislative session.

Cruz served in the House of Representatives from 2010 to 2018. She currently lives in Tampa with her husband, Steve, and has four children.
