DUVAL COUNTY (FLV) – Jessica Baker is the Republican nominee for House District 17 against Christina Meredith.

Baker received 64% of the vote while Meredith received 36%. Baker will now face Democrat Michael Anderson in November.

Baker is an Assistant State Attorney in the 7th Judicial Circuit. She previously worked in Intergovernmental Affairs for Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry and did similar work for government affairs firms in Jacksonville and Tallahassee.

Florida’s Voice exclusively spoke with Christina Meredith’s former legal guardians who disputed some of Meredith’s claims made in her book, CinderGirl: My Journey Out of the Ashes to a Life of Hope.

Meredith described herself as a “product of the foster system” and used her story throughout the campaign. However, her former guardians told Florida’s Voice that they were never employees for the foster system.

Meredith’s book claimed “she had nowhere to turn” after facing abuse. The former guardians said she lived with them and they had hoped to adopt her until Meredith decided to move out.
