WASHINGTON, D.C. (FLV) – U.S. Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla., was recognized by the Florida Farm Bureau and the American Farm Bureau Federation with the Outstanding New Member of Congress Award.

The award is given to a member of congress who has completed their first term and has shown they are a “reliable friend to agriculture.”

“We are pleased to see Congresswoman Kat Cammack receive the Outstanding New Member of Congress award,” Florida Farm Bureau President Jeb Smith said. “Her service and passion for agriculture is demonstrated daily.”

Cammack was elected to her first term in 2020 and according to the Florida Farm Bureau, she has been a “true champion” for farmers by advocating against regulations from the U.S. Security and Exchange Commission and has fought against taxes that would devastate family farms.

Cammack serves as co-chair of the Congressional Soils Caucus and is a member of Rural Broadband and Working Forests caucuses.

“Her practical approach to speaking up on the issues that farmers and ranchers face at the local to national level is commendable,” Smith said. “As a member of Farm Bureau and the House Agriculture Committee, telling the stories of farmers and ranchers is personal to her. She is truly a voice for agriculture. We are fortunate to have Congresswoman Cammack as a friend.”

According to Cammack’s website, she is a third-generation sandblaster who grew up on a cattle ranch. She had hopes of continuing the family business, but shortly before graduating college, an Obama-era housing program forced her family to lose their cattle ranch and home.

As a result, Cammack was motivated to “fight back against the failures” of big government and has since dedicated her life’s work to “fight big government” and advance individual freedoms.

Prior to Cammack’s election in 2020, she served for nearly a decade as the deputy chief of staff for Florida’s Third Congressional District. During that time, she advocated for small business owners, veterans and military families, agricultural producers and hardworking families.

The congresswoman holds a Master’s Degree in National Defense and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College and has used her experience in the national defense.

While serving on the 117th Congress, Cammack served on the House Agriculture and Homeland Security Committees, along with the Select Committee on the Economy.

While serving on those committees, she brought attention to the challenges faced by working-class families and Florida’s farmers, ranchers and producers with rising inflation, labor challenges and supply-chain issues.

She also worked to highlight the “historic border crisis,” and visited  the southern border and questioned the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas multiple times before Committee.

Now serving in her second term during the 118th Congress, she works to prioritize constituent advocacy and service, fighting for families, national security, and government accountability, according to her website.

Recipients of the award are chosen for having a philosophy or record that demonstrates a commitment to sound agricultural policies supported by Farm Bureau, the private enterprise system, fiscal conservatism and reduced federal regulation of businesses and individuals.
