TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Republican senators expressed their support for Sen. Ben Albritton, R-Wauchula, as he was named the Florida senate president for the 2024-2026 Legislative Term.

Senate President Kathleen Passidomo said she could not think of a better person to lead the chamber, expressing her confidence in Albritton’s leadership abilities.

“I couldn’t think of a better person. A friend with a heart as big as the lake he loves and wants so much to protect,” Passidomo said. “A thoughtful legislator whose curious mind and boundless creativity our joy. A man as dear to me as my three brothers.”

Sen. Ed Hooper, R-Palm Harbor, described Albritton’s character when he served in the House of Representatives from 2010-2018.

“Ben earned the respect of his colleagues as a thoughtful, strong advocate on many of the same issues we’re facing today in this great state,” Hooper said prior to the vote to elect Albritton.

A top priority of Albritton when senate president is protecting the agriculture industry. He is a fourth generation farmer who worked for his family’s citrus groves after graduating from Florida Southern College.

“I went to Ben Albritton when there was anything to do with agriculture, natural resources, water quality, water availability,” Hooper explained. “The man knows what he’s talking about.”

Sen. Jim Boyd, R-Bradenton, talked about Albritton’s faith in Jesus as a Christian.

“He turns to the Lord for guidance and wisdom,” Boyd said. “Seeks to follow his footsteps and ask for His grace. That’s a man I want to follow. I know Ben is a leader.”

Boyd described Albritton as a brother who is the “type of leader that’s easy to follow.”

“I’ve gotten to know Ben and Missy very well. We’ve witnessed them raise their kids to become such wonderful adults and now have grandkids,” Boyd said. “That’s quite a testament to who they are as parents.”

Albritton currently serves as the Senate majority leader.

“I am humbled to have earned your trust and your support for this important role,” Albritton said to Senate members after being elected Tuesday. “This day is not as much about me as it is about you and your voice.”
