NORTH PALM BEACH, Fla. (FLV) – Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nunez was in South Florida Tuesday highlighting the success of Florida’s “Freedom Summer” program.

“This three month sales tax holiday which runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day weekend is a big part of our vision, again, for our economic freedom; making sure that Floridians can take advantage of the wonderful resources we have to offer right here at home,” said Nunez during an appearance at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park in North Palm Beach.

The initiative is an expanded sales tax break for Florida families under the Framework of Freedom budget. A similar relief holiday was passed during Fiscal Year 2022-23 called “Freedom Week.”

Items incorporated in the relief plan include outdoor recreation purchases (including supplies), tickets to concerts and sporting events, admission to state parks, and children’s toys and athletic equipment.

In her remarks, Nunez highlighted Florida as “the fishing and boating capital of the world” while stating those industries represent a more than $50 billion impact on the state.

“In addition, you can enjoy some of your favorite fairs or festivals or concerts,” Nunez said. “Perhaps pick up a new recreational activity; whether its paddle boarding or canoeing or surfing or kayaking.”

Nunez went on to emphasize discounted admissions to Florida’s “award winning” state parks.

“Take advantage of those tax savings, take advantage of our great state parks and our recreational activities,” Nunez added. “And get out there for a tax free good time.”

The program is expected to save Florida families $230 million.
