WASHINGTON, D.C. (FLV) – U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio in a video Wednesday called it “incredible” that migrants from Venezuela traveling illegally into the United States can now sue the government of the laws they violated.

“In what country in the world are you allowed to enter illegally into a country violating its laws, and within a week, be in court suing the very government whose laws you’ve just violated?” Rubio asked. “No other country in the world would allow that.”

The DeSantis Administration flew 50 migrants to Martha’s Vineyard through a Florida program that transports illegal immigrants from the state. Florida officials on the ground in Texas offered migrants flights to Florida and then ultimately Martha’s Vineyard.

The advocacy group, Alianza Americas, filed a lawsuit claiming Florida’s program is a “fraudulent and discriminatory scheme” to transport “vulnerable” immigrants.

“To gain the Plaintiffs’ trust, and to induce unwitting cooperation with Defendants’ scheme, the Doe Defendants provided items such as $10 McDonalds gift certificates to class members suffering from chronic food insecurity,” part of the lawsuit said.

“And the other hypocrisy here is all of these people in the media and politics going around saying that we have an obligation to assume this responsibility of caring for millions of people who are coming, have come, or want to come,” Rubio said. “Who assumes responsibility? Who’s supposed to pay for all this? Because they don’t want to pay for it.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis had the migrants flown to “sanctuary destinations” where local law enforcement agencies generally do not have to work with federal agencies to enforce immigration law.

Two days after the illegal immigrants arrived in Martha’s Vineyard, they were boarded on buses for Joint Base Cape Cod. Officials said the island communities are not equipped to provide sustainable accommodation, and state officials developed a plan to deliver a comprehensive humanitarian response.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has sent buses of migrants to New York City and Washington, D.C. Despite Washington D.C. having designated themselves a sanctuary city, Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a public health emergency last week in response to Texas busing migrants from border states.

“What they’re basically saying is we should allow anyone who comes here illegally to come in, to stay and we should assume that responsibility, but only if they stay in Florida, but only if they stay in Texas. Not if they come to New York, not if they come to Massachusetts, not if they come to Washington DC,” Rubio said. “They’re hypocrites”

Florida Democrats have called the move to fly the illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard a “horror.”

“It’s amazing to me what he’s willing to do for sheer political gain and to use people in this way,” Charlie Crist said. “When you are this inhumane in how you treat human beings, you’re not qualified to be governor of anything.”

Rep. Anna Eskamani, who represents the Orlando area, called it “disgusting, un-American and shameful.”

“Imagine how much good we could do if they approached comprehensive immigration reform w/the same fervor they have for attacking immigrants,” Eskamani said.

However, those candidates have dodged questions on whether they support President Joe Biden’s border policies as a record-breaking two million people cross the U.S. southern border.
