TALLAHASSEE (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis is known for fighting for family values so it was not a surprise when his son, Mason, appeared in the most recent re-election ad.

The ad is inspired by the movie Top Gun: Maverick and compares dogfighting to “taking on corporate media.”

At the end of the ad, it cuts to Mason DeSantis in an aircraft saying, “let’s turn and burn.” His split-second cute appearance received laughs and applause from people who loved the commercial.

“My 4-year-old son is an aficionado already about fighter jets and naval aviation,” DeSantis said on a Fox and Friends interview. “He is Maverick. Not me. He is Maverick. He makes that very clear whenever we talk about it.”

DeSantis was asked where he came up the new idea for the ad Tuesday morning on Fox and Friends.

“Well I think it was something that my wife initially thought about because you talk about the dogfighting and it’s like like, okay, what is our dogfighting? It’s dealing with corporate press,” he said.

The re-election campaign is a family affair for the DeSantises with Casey DeSantis teasing the new ad on Twitter a day before it was released.

Casey DeSantis has been very involved with her her husband’s campaign and other initiatives. She has helped spearhead the state’s “Hope Florida” initiative that connects families and single parents with a care navigator. She also continues with the “Mamas for DeSantis” tour as election season kicks up.

It’s another signal that the DeSantis’ have an emphasis on family values. The Mamas for DeSantis tour recognizes the importance of mothers having control over their kids and their education.

The First Lady is also known for bringing her kids to press conferences. At a recent roundtable discussion, her daughter sat on DeSantis’ lap as she discussed ways to expand and grow the “Hope Florida” initiative.

Ron DeSantis has also proudly promoted legislation to encourage fatherhood and mentorship. A new law included funding for education programs, mentorship programs and one-on-one support for responsible and involved fatherhood.

“To any dad out there who may not be engaged, you know, we wanna be able to support – we’ve got programs, we’ve got community groups and nonprofits that wanna be there to help. But you gotta be willing to do the right thing and be present in your child’s life,” DeSantis said.
