JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (FLV) – Jacksonville City Councilman Joe Carlucci endorsed Republican mayoral candidate Daniel Davis after Councilman Matt Carlucci, his father, endorsed Democrat mayoral candidate Donna Deegan.

Davis and Deegan are heading into the May 16 election for Jacksonville mayor.

Matt Carlucci, a Republican, endorsed Deegan Thursday. Deegan thanked him for “always doing what’s in the best interest of Jacksonville, regardless of party.”

“The following statement is not party driven but is instead an endorsement of the mayoral candidate whose heart and determination is wholly focused on Jacksonville,” Matt Carlucci said.

Joe Carlucci, also a Republican, endorsed Davis Friday. Davis said he is “honored to have the support of pro-law enforcement leaders like Joe.”

“I’ve had a front row seat to important mayoral races my entire life and here’s what I’ve learned: experience and leadership matter. Daniel Davis has the experience and the leadership we need to make Jacksonville a safer and more affordable city for all,” Joe Carlucci said.

Deegan’s slogan throughout her campaign has been “change for good.”

“Donna Deegan has proven an authentic commitment to local issues, most of which we share in common,” Matt Carlucci said. “Her leadership will mark a much needed change in city government — to a more transparent, collaborative, future-forward culture. I have followed this race closely, observed all candidates, and have admired Deegan’s approach. “

Davis has been a proud supporter of law enforcement throughout his campaign and has been endorsed by law enforcement leaders including Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters, the Fraternal Order of Police and former Sheriff John Rutherford.

“Joe represents the next generation of conservative leaders in our city and I am proud to have him on our winning team,” Davis said.

“With just 18 days until the election, I am thrilled with the momentum we are building and honored to have the support of pro-law enforcement leaders like Joe, along with our Sheriff TK Waters, former Sheriff and current Congressman John Rutherford and the Fraternal Order of Police.”

Joe Carlucci was elected to serve as city councilman for district 5 in March. Matt Carlucci is serving his fourth term as a city council member, currently occupying the at-large group 4 seat.
