MIAMI (FLV) – Miami Mayor Francis Suarez recently hinted that he will be seeking the Republican nomination for president during an interview with Fox News Sunday.

“My announcement is to stay tuned,” he said in response to host Shannon Bream on Sunday.

“Next week, like you said, I’m going to be making a big speech in the Reagan Library, and I think it’s one that Americans should tune into,” he continued. “It’s one where we talk about what the future of our country should be. It should be a future that creates prosperity, not poverty.”

The mayor shared how he has traveled to the four early primary states, “Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Nevada,” and that when people listen to his message, “they want to hear more.”

Prior to his Sunday appearance on Fox, Suarez shared with NBC6 South Florida that in regards to running for president, “The decision day is quickly approaching. As I said, I went from considering it to strongly considering it.”

The two term mayor is expected to make his presidential announcement official in Simi Valley, Calif., with looming concerns of his involvement in a potential $170,000 ethics violation in 2021, along with concerns surrounding internal party allegiance.

Suarez voted against Gov. Ron DeSantis in the 2018 Florida gubernatorial election and former President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential race.

As time closes in on the long anticipated announcement, Suarez plans to differentiate himself from the growing field of primary candidates by highlighting how he is “the only Hispanic candidate from both parties,” and a “young Republican.”
