Moffitt Cancer Center groundbreaking honors Commissioner Wilton Simpson

PASCO COUNTY (FLV) – The Moffitt Cancer Center groundbreaking for a new campus honored Agricultural Commissioner and former Florida Senate President Wilton Simpson Friday.

Moffitt Cancer Center broke ground on its “Speros FL” campus, which will be used for the future of revolutionary cancer treatment and research. The campus will feature 16 million square feet of lab, office, manufacturing and clinical space.

Simpson was honored for “his long-standing commitment to Moffitt’s mission and his legacy of supporting the growth of the scientific community for the benefit of all Floridians.”

The campus will be named “W.E. Simpson Concourse For Cures” and the campus road is named “Wilton Way.”

You cannot separate cancer research and treatment from hope, which is the root of the name Speros FL and the driving force behind all that we do at Moffitt Cancer Center. Our vision is to be the global epicenter for personalized oncology care and leading research that will revolutionize the way we prevent, find and treat cancer. We look forward to breaking ground on this innovative community and are proud to announce the name, which is an important step in this historic project.

The name, Speros, is a derivative of the Latin verb “Sperare,” meaning “to hope” or “to look forward to” and was announced in December 2022.

Construction for Phase 1A is planned to be completed between 2023-2028.
