WASHINGTON, D.C. (FLV) – U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), endorsed Charlie Crist to go head to head with DeSantis in Florida’s gubernatorial race.

The Crist campaign announced the endorsement Monday.

Crist serves as the U.S. Representative for Florida’s 13th district where Pelosi said they have worked together for six years.

“I’m reaching out to personally ask you to support Charlie Crist’s campaign for Governor of Florida. I’ve worked with Charlie for the past six years in Congress and I’ve seen him fight for Floridians every single day. He always puts people first,” Pelosi said.

“It’s a stark contrast to the current Governor.”

Florida’s Voice reported in March that Crist’s campaign was “worried” about not reaching their fundraising goals. In February, Crist raised only $436,000 compared to DeSantis raising around $10,000,000.

The RealClearPolitics average polling data showed DeSantis leading at 50.4% with Crist at 41.6%, a worrying number for Democrats and an encouraging one for Republicans.

Democrat Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried is the current runner-up contender for the Democratic nomination in the Governor’s race.

The average polling data showed DeSantis leading at 52% with Fried at 39.2%.

The Democrat primary will be held on August 23, and the election on November 8.
