SACRAMENTO (FLV) – Over the past month, Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom began running ads in Florida targeting Gov. Ron DeSantis and asking Floridians to move to the pro-COVID lockdown state.

Over July 4th weekend, Newsom ran an ad in the Sunshine State asking Floridians to “join us [Newsom]” in California.

“Freedom is under attack in your state,” Newsom said in the advertisement. “I urge all of you living in Florida to join the fight or join us in California… where we still believe in freedom.”

Ron DeSantis’ Press Secretary Christina Pushaw said Newsom is “increasingly desperate” to communicate with Californians who “fled his left-lib dystopia” for Florida.

Californians and New Yorkers are reportedly leading the surge in 2022 as people move to Florida.

Now, Newsom is targeting Texas.

“Newsom runs ads in Texas newspapers hitting [Texas Gov.] Abbott on guns, abortion,” a Hill headline read.

“If Texas can ban abortion and endanger lives, California can ban deadly weapons of war and save lives,” Newsom says in the ad.

Florida and Texas – both large red states being targeted by the pro-lockdown and pro-vaccine mandate governor – were the top two states to see the largest increase of population from other states.

A report from the U.S. Census Bureau found that Florida saw the largest net-migration increase from other states in the country, with blue states New York and California seeing the largest exodus.

Florida gained 263,958 people from other states while Texas gained 211,289.

On the other hand, California saw a net out-migration of 429,283 residents while New York saw a 406,257 net out-migration.

“No amount of media narratives can gaslight Americans into believing that mandates are freedom,” Governor DeSantis Press Secretary Christina Pushaw said.

A report from the California Policy Lab found that since the COVID-19 pandemic began, California’s rate of losing population due to domestic migration “doubled.”

DeSantis and Newsom have been feuding for several weeks, with DeSantis in a new interview with Florida’s Voice slamming the California governor for supporting vaccine discrimination against athletes with disabilities at the Special Olympics.

“These athletes – they have down syndrome, disabilities, and they wanted to compete in the Special Olympics in Orlando. Well, there’s an international bureaucracy affiliated with the group that imposed vax discrimination on these athletes,” he said. “The athletes I met, their doctors told them not to do it based on their condition.”

“He would discriminate against athletes with down syndrome! Give me a break.”
