Nikki Haley drops out of presidential race just before Floridians ramp up primary voting

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley dropped out of the presidential race on Wednesday, the morning after a Super Tuesday shellacking.

“I have no regrets,” Haley said Wednesday.

In her exit, she wished former President Donald Trump “well” and said she doesn’t want her differences with Trump to “divide voters.”

She urged Trump to “earn the votes of those in our party [who] did not support him,” and suggested he not turn voters “away.”

“This is now his time for choosing,” she said.

Haley’s move comes as Floridians have been mailing in hundreds of thousands of presidential primary ballots for March 19’s contest.

This Saturday, in person early voting will have begun statewide, but some counties have already started, including Miami-Dade.

The move from Haley means that Trump will be host to a somewhat “uncontested” primary, though Haley’s name will still be on Florida’s ballot.

However, with word going out that Haley is no longer seeking the nomination, the electorate in Florida and in other countrywide primaries will likely tilt even further for Trump.

Haley was Trump’s last well-known competitor in the race. With her dropping out, Trump is more strongly than before the “presumptive nominee,” though not enough states have voted for him to officially clinch the required delegates.

March, however, will more than likely be the month Trump does clinch what he needs to set his primary victory in stone ahead of July’s Republican National Convention.
