OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. (FLV) – The National Republican Congressional Committee announced a targeted nationwide billboard and digital advertising campaign Tuesday, aimed at holding U.S. Rep. Darren Soto, D-Fla., “accountable for skyrocketing gas prices.”

“Gas prices are out of control. Extremist Darren Soto is making it worse,” the ad said.

The NRCC said the hybrid billboard and digital advertising campaign will appear in close proximity to gas stations in Florida’s 9th district and comes as the AAA average nears $4 a gallon.

This ad is a part of a larger national campaign targeting a total of 21 “vulnerable House Democrats” across the country, the NRCC said.

In May, the NRCC launched ads targeting Democrats for “their addiction to reckless spending that is putting America on the brink of debt default.”

Soto, an attorney who was elected to Congress in 2016, beat Republican Scotty Moore 53-46 in the 2022 general election. He is up for reelection in 2024.

The congressman has been a frequent critic of Gov. Ron DeSantis on social media.

“As we’ve seen over & over, DeSantis is failing Florida. His cultural wars & divisive rhetoric have cost Central Florida thousands of jobs & billions of dollars in investments, like we recently saw with Disney pulling plans to create a Lake Nona campus,” Soto said in May.
