ORLANDO (FCV) – Disney World is planning to remove their mask mandates for vaccinated guests only. This plan will go into effect on Thursday, February 17th, 2022.

The easing of the mask mandates comes after their competition, Universal Orlando Resort, has also made facemasks optional for their guests. Universal Orlando Resort dropped their mask mandate on February 12th, 2022.

It is worth noting that the companies are not, and likely legally cannot, require guests to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Therefore, effectively, all guests can enjoy one of the most visited tourism destinations in the world mask-free.

Disney World (Florida) and Disneyland (California) have both said that masks will still be required in certain indoor settings, including transportation. Guests who are not fully vaccinated are still expected to wear masks in all indoor locations.

“We expect Guests who are not fully vaccinated to continue wearing face coverings in all indoor locations, including indoor attractions and theaters,” says Disney on its resort website.

These changes to the mask mandate come after states like California have begun  easing some of their pandemic restrictions and mask mandates. However, California will still enforce the mask mandates in schools.

Florida’s mask policy has relatively stayed the same, with Governor Ron DeSantis (R) standing firm on their decision to not issue a statewide mandate.
