FORT MYERS (FLV) – A new Florida election poll released by Spectrum News and Siena College found Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis leads Democrat Charlie Crist by 12 points statewide. In September, the same poll gave DeSantis under 50% support and an 8 point lead.

Notably among Hispanic voters, contrary to Democrat hopes, DeSantis’ support has skyrocketed since sending migrants to Martha’s Vineyard. Siena found he leads Crist by 25 points among Hispanic voters, 61%-36%.

The incumbent Republican has highest marks among Hispanic voters, even compared to white voters.

DeSantis garnered 60% of white support to Crist’s 37%. Among black voters, DeSantis received 12% to Crist’s 84%.

Democrats are hemorrhaging support in traditionally blue areas like Miami-Dade, Orlando, and Tampa. In 2018, all of those areas went to Democrat Andrew Gillum by near-or-above double digit margins.

Siena found, however, DeSantis leads by double digits in all of those areas.

In Miami-Dade, which has already flipped in favor of Republicans, according to early and mail-in voting numbers, DeSantis was found to lead Crist by 11 points, 54%-43%. In Orlando, he lead by 12 points, 54%-42%. In Tampa Bay, his lead is even larger at 20 points, 58%-38%.

The only region of Florida DeSantis was found to be behind Crist was Southeast – the Palm Beach and Broward areas. The Republican received 39% to Crist’s 54%.

Spectrum News attributed a large portion of DeSantis’ gains since September to his response to Hurricane Ian, which made landfall later that month. He has a 52% favorability rating, and 72% of voters are “satisfied” with his response, to just 22% “unsatisfied.”

The poll found similarly high marks for other statewide Republican races, including Attorney General Ashley Moody (+14%), U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (+8%).

On President Joe Biden, only 40% found him favorable to 55% unfavorable.

The poll was conducted among 659 Florida likely voters from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1, 2022 by telephone. It polled 40% Republicans, 37% Democrats, and 20% Independent/Other.

In Florida early voting, Republicans are positioned several hundred thousand votes better than they were in 2020, where Democrats lead by more than 115,000. Find updated data here.

The RealClearPolitics aggregate shows DeSantis winning by 11.8 points. A new poll from FOX 35/Insider Advantage was also released, giving DeSantis a 10-point lead over Crist. No poll in the aggregate has DeSantis winning by under 10 points.
