TALLAHASSEE (FLV) – According to poll aggregator RealClearPolitics, Gov. Ron DeSantis’ lead has diminished since primary season, but remains larger than former President Donald Trump’s win margin in 2020.

Democrat Charlie Crist clinched the nomination for governor the night of Aug. 23 when he defeated rival Nikki Fried by hundreds of thousands of votes. Since then, new polls began to emerge without asking voters to choose between DeSantis and Crist vs. DeSantis and Fried.

From Aug. 24, the day after the primary, to Sep. 6, the latest aggregate gives DeSantis an average four-point lead over Crist, considerably lower than pre-primary polls found. Trump won the Sunshine State by just over three points, and DeSantis won in 2018 by 0.4%.

The aggregate takes into account the following polls:

Fabrizio/Anzalone, 8/24-8/31, 500 likely voters (R-40%, D-37%, NPA-23%) – DeSantis +3

Susquehanna, 8/29-9/4, 500 likely voters (R-41%, D-37%, NPA-21%) – DeSantis +4

FOX 35/InsiderAdvantage, 9/5-9/6, 550 likely voters (no partisan breakdown) – DeSantis +5

RealClearPolitics

The polls are the first major round after Florida’s primary election night that painted a clearer picture of what voters will decide on in November.

Crist also received a post-primary fundraising boost after winning the nomination, but still sags far behind DeSantis overall.

Another election analysis and poll website – FiveThirtyEight – gives DeSantis a 92% chance of winning re-election to Crist’s 8%, with most of DeSantis’ win outcomes occurring around the 7-to-10-point win margin, at the time of reporting.

The election will be held on Nov. 8, 2022.
