ORLANDO (FLV) – While millions of Americans plan to celebrate America’s independence from Great Britain this 4th of July, some people are using the holiday as an “Independence Day Protest” in support of abortion.

There is an “Independence Day Protest for Abortion Rights” scheduled at the Orange County Courthouse Monday afternoon.

“This 4th of July America is driven by the demands for bodily autonomy, for accessible reproductive healthcare,” the Facebook event said.

July 4th commemorates the passage of the Declaration of Independence which stated that God made all men equal and gave them the rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

It declared that the United States did not want to accept British rule. The original 13 colonies broke away after Great Britain imposed greater taxes and attempted to further control the colonies.

However, pro-abortion activists are using the holiday to protest the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

“And for leaders who will fight FOR abortion access, NOT threaten our independence,” the Facebook event said. “The Supreme Court has eliminated our constitutional right to abortion.”

The overturning of Roe v. Wade essentially gave the authority to regulate abortions back to the states. The people Floridian’s directly elect will have the authority to make decisions regarding abortions.

Florida’s legislation banned abortions in Florida after 15 weeks in most cases. However, a Florida judge said he would grant a statewide temporary emergency injunction to block that ban. That injunction would not take place until next week. Governor Ron DeSantis is appealing the judge’s decision.
