MIAMI – Florida Republican Rep. Carlos Gimenez praised an appearance by former President Donald Trump at the FI Miami Grand Prix in which the GOP nominee was greeted with chants of U-S-A prior to Sunday’s race.

“President Trump received a hero’s welcome at the Formula 1 race from thousands of people, who made their way to Miami from across the country and all over the world,” Gimenez said to Florida’s Voice. “As Mayor of Miami-Dade County, I was proud to champion economic engines like F1 and work alongside Stephen Ross to make the Miami Grand Prix a reality.”

Before the race, Trump Deputy Director of Communications Margo Martin shared a clip of fans chanting “U-S-A” outside the McLaren Racing garage as Trump arrived to pit lane.

Martin also shared a clip of Trump saluting the nation anthem prior to the start of the race.

While in Miami, Gimenez noted the Grand Prix was an international event, not just an American one.

“That kind of reception shows that President Trump is not only welcome here in Florida, but he’s probably welcomed around the world,” Gimenez said to Fox Business.

Furthering on Trump’s popularity, Gimenez mentioned Florida as being a red state. According to polling, Trump holds a three-point advantage on President Joe Biden in November’s general election.

In a press release, Miami Grand Pix Officials noted a three-day attendance of over 275,000 fans. The race itself was won by Lando Norris, his first F1 win in 110 attempts. Norris was followed by Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc in second and third place, respectively.

Along with Trump, the race was attended by Lebron James, Jimmy Butler, Jalen Ramsey, Camila Cabello, Shakira, and national anthem performer Marc Anthony.

“Our community stands with President Trump, we’re proud to have him living in Florida, and always honored to hose the President when he’s in my beloved hometown of Miami – the best community on earth,” Gimenez said.
