St. Augustine, Fla. – Republican David Shoar, who is running for district 7 of the Florida Senate, announced Monday he has been endorsed by Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla.

“Sheriff David Shoar is the Trump Conservative District 7 residents can trust to fight for them. As a fellow Army veteran, he fought for our country in the Gulf War, ” Steube said in a release. “He fought for our families as a police officer and Sheriff over his 40-year law enforcement career. Now he’s ready to fight for our conservative values and the Make America Great Again Agenda in Tallahassee.”

Voters can count on Sheriff Shoar to keep our streets safe from illegal immigrants and crime, to keep our economy strong, and to protect our right to bear arms and constitutional liberties. David Shoar fought for President Trump and he’ll fight for you, too,” he added.

Shoar responded, expressing how he was “honored” to receive the congressman’s support.

“I have deep respect for his service to our country and his conservative leadership in Congress. For 40 years, I dedicated my career to serving the people of this community,” he said.

“I’m ready to continue serving and protecting the interests of our families in the Florida Senate. I stand with President Trump and his agenda to secure the border, restore our economy, and stop the Radical Left agenda,” Shaor added.

District 7 is currently represented by Sen. Travis Huston, R- Palm Coast. The area consists of Flagler, Putnam and St. Johns Counties, as well as part of Volusia County in North Florida.

Steube currently represents Florida’s 17th Congressional District, located in southwest Florida. Similar to Shoar, Steube served as a member of the U.S. Army in Iraq from 2004-2008.

According to the release, Shoar first served as St. Augustine’s chief of police before embarking on a 16-year career as Sheriff of St. Johns County from 2004-2020. In addition, he retired from the Florida Army National Guard with the rank of Major after a 24-year career.

Gaining trust from the law enforcement community, Shoar was elected as President of the Florida Sheriff’s Association in 2014.

With Huston term limited, Shoar joins Gerry James and Rep. Tom Leek, R-Ormond Beach, in the Republican primary.
