WASHINGTON, D.C. (FLV) – The National Republican Congressional Committee has called out “Bidenomics” for leading to less healthy eating habits, according to the a spokesperson for the group.

President Joe Biden has attempted to sell the economic slogan to the country, causing some vulnerable House Democrats in battleground districts to stir away from the topic.

The National Republican Congressional Committee pointed to a recent survey that showed Floridians are making less healthy choices due to inflation.

U.S. Rep. Darren Soto, D-Kissimmee, has been targeted by the NRCC as one culprit of the administration’s “Bidenomics” message. Soto voted for the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022, which Biden championed.

Burying his head in the sand won’t make Darren Soto’s furious constituents ignore their rising gas and grocery bills. Extreme Democrats’ reckless spending means we all pay more for less: that’s the real definition of ‘Bidenomics,'” NRCC press secretary Delanie Bomar said.

Florida’s Voice reached out to Soto for a response to the NRCC’s attacks Tuesday afternoon, but did not receive an immediate response.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, food prices have risen dramatically.

The Consumer Price Index, also known as CPI, for all food was 4.9% higher than in July 2022. Moreover, grocery store to supermarket purchases were 3.6% higher than July 2022.

In addition, restaurant purchases was 7.1% higher than in that same time period.

Florida’s 9th Congressional District, which Soto represents, incorporates part of Orlando.

Soto won his seat as an incumbent back in 2022 over Republican Scotty Moore by just over seven percentage points. His term ends on Jan. 3, 2025 but he is running for reelection.
