NEW YORK – Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott sounded off on the legal cases against former President Donald Trump Thursday morning as the hush money trial in New York continues.

“I support my friend. I support Donald Trump,” Scott said on Fox & Friends. “This is just political persecution – it’s a crime to use the courts for political persecution.”

Scott is heading to court with Trump on Thursday.

“I saw this – it happened to me. I fought Hillarycare and guess what happened when I fought Hillary care – [DOJ] came after me, attacked me and my company.

Scott said the legal efforts against Trump also put “every American at risk.”

“They can go after you,” he said. “I’m gonna go support this president because this is wrong. What’s happening to this guy? He’s just being politically persecuted. They fined him – for where no one lost any money – now they’re trying to put him in jail over an accounting dispute? This is wrong.”

Scott’s comments on “Hillarycare” refer to when he was a major health care executive. In 1997, the U.S. publicized an investigation into Columbia/HCA, and ultimately had the company pay $1.7 billion in total over “criminal conduct” such as “fraudulent Medicare billing and paying kickbacks to doctors,” per CNN.

“Hillarycare” were medical reforms pushed – unsuccessfully- by then-First Lady Hillary Clinton in 1993, during President Bill Clinton’s administration. The reforms aimed to have government-guaranteed health coverage universally. Such program became known as “Obamacare,” or the Affordable Care Act, in 2010.
