TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – Despite recent media speculation of a presidential run, Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., is running for re-election to the Senate, according to his campaign.

The New York Times published a story titled “Senator Rick Scott Has Been Weighing a Presidential Run” and said the Scott is considering a late entry into the Republican presidential primary race.

“It’s flattering that some have mentioned the possibility of Senator Scott running for President, but as he’s said many times, he’s running for re-election to the Senate,” Senior Adviser Chris Hartline told Florida’s Voice.

Scott released a new television ad on Jan. 4 and called out “weak leaders” in Washington.

“Weak Republican leaders in Washington are helping lead America towards woke socialism. We need leaders who are tough, speak the truth and won’t cave in to @JoeBiden,” Scott said.

Scott announced his run for reelection in January.

“I’ve been able to win twice as governor and and once as a Senator. And so I’m gonna work hard every day to make sure I win,” Scott said in January.

Scott was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2018. He is up for reelection in 2024.
