ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott joined a group of Columbian leaders to announce the “Columbians for Rick Scott” coalition at Pio Pio Restaurant in Orlando on Saturday.

“It’s an honor to receive endorsements from so many Colombian leaders who are doing great things for our state and fight every day for freedom in Colombia and Latin America. Historically, Colombia has been one of our greatest allies in Latin America,” Scott said. “But recently, President Petro has been cozying up to dictators in Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua. This cannot happen. It’s dangerous for not only Florida, but the entire Western Hemisphere.”

According to the campaign, the coalition is assembled of Colombian leaders who back Scott’s actions to support Colombian families and businesses in the state. It also notes holding President Joe Biden accountable for “appeasing dangerous dictators, abandoning Latin America, and threatening the security of the United States.”

“We must continue to oppose all forms of Socialism and Communism in Latin America, and we expect our allies to do the same. Joe Biden and the Democrats have turned their back on Latin America by appeasing these brutal regimes and the Biden administration’s agenda of appeasement is dangerous and destabilizing for our region,” Scott said.

Scott further stated he would continue to fight alongside the leaders to support the Colombian community for “peace, stability, and freedom” in Latin America.

He also listed a number of accomplishments for the community during his tenure in the Senate. They include some of the following:

  • Urged President Biden to re-evaluate the U.S.-Colombian relationship after President Petro’s display of anti-Semitism
  • Introduced a resolution reaffirming the United States’ commitment to Colombia.
  • Meeting with former President of Columbia Ivan Duque to discuss threats made by Petro’s government against former President Uribe involving freedom and stability.
  • Worked with leaders in 2019 to discuss fighting ways to prevent drug trafficking, expand economic relations, and support those fleeing murderous regimes.

Along with “Colombians for Rick Scott”, other coalitions have formed to include “Puerto Ricans for Scott”, “Cubans for Scott,” and “Ecuadorians for Scott,” among others.
