WASHINGTON, D.C. – Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott said the U.S. should consider Turkey’s membership of NATO due to their recent comments on Hamas, a terrorist organization that launched attacks on Israel this month.

“Hamas is not a terrorist organization, it is a liberation group, mujahideen waging a battle to protect its lands and people,” Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan reportedly said.

“Hamas murders innocent babies, burns families alive & is holding Americans hostage,” Scott said.

“Erdogan has again shown that his interests don’t align with those of the U.S.,” he said. “We need to seriously consider Turkey’s membership in NATO if it’s willing to side with Iran-backed terrorists.”

Turkey has been in NATO for decades.

The comments from Turkey’s leader come as the battle between Israel and Hamas continues.

Scott recently called out Hamas for further attacks on innocent Israeli civilians, and denounced reports of Hamas attacking hospitals.

“Hamas bombs hospitals,” he said. “Will all the Democrats who falsely accused Israel of targeting a hospital now condemn this attack by Iran-back Hamas? @RepRashida we are eagerly waiting for your statement of this.”
