WASHINGTON, D.C. – Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott pointed to former President Donald Trump’s “track record” as the prime rationale for endorsing Trump in the 2024 election.

“When he was president, we had a great economy. We don’t now,” Scott said on Florida’s Voice with Brendon Leslie. “When he was president, we weren’t at war. We’re at war now.”

A large part of Scott’s endorsement was Trump’s record on Israel in light of war breaking out between the Jewish state and terrorist organization Hamas, sparking in early-October. Scott previously called Trump the most “pro-Israel” president.

“When he was president, our border was secure, right? Our border is not secure now,” the senator said. “We were in way better shape under President Trump, and I think voters around the country see that, and that’s why they’re supporting him, and that’s why I support him.”

Scott’s endorsement represented a preference over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who seeks to thwart Trump’s commanding GOP lead.

“I’m not suggesting anybody ever get out of a race,” Scott said. “I never wanted anybody to tell me to get out of a race. So I think everybody that has a message and wants to go run, you should go run.”

“I’m going to support Donald Trump because I believe he’s the best thing for Floridians,” he said.

Scott emphasized his standalone Israel aid funding bill and said he’s “hoping, someday, we’ll get a president that actually cares about that.”

“I’m trying to make sure everybody knows we have Americans held hostage right now, and let’s don’t ever forget that 33 Americans were killed, and we have at least 10 held hostage,” he said.

“New Speaker Mike Johnson passed a standalone Israel bill,” Scott said. “That’s what we need to pass here.”

“Chuck Schumer, Mitch McConnell, Joe Biden – they want to hold up and hold hostage aid to Israel, for aid to Ukraine and money for sanctuary cities,” he said. “I’m not gonna go along with that.”

“I’m gonna fight for Israel. I’m gonna fight to fight for Jewish people.”

Scott is running for reelection to the Senate in 2024.
