TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., endorsed Republican Bernie Moreno for Senate in Ohio on Wednesday.

Moreno, a Cleveland-area businessman, is looking to unseat U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, who was first elected in 2006.

Other candidates who have filed to run include Republicans Matt Dolan, Frank LaRose, and Joel Mutchler, according to Ballotpedia.

The Senate hopeful said he is “honored” to have the endorsement of Rubio.

“As a member of the US Senate, I’ll stand with Sen. Rubio to fight for pro-family economic policies and pro-worker trade policies that strengthen our middle-class and hold China accountable,” Moreno said on Twitter.

Rubio said the U.S. Senate “needs more conservative leaders like Bernie Moreno.”

The Florida Senator called Moreno a “proven leader who knows how to get things done.”

“He’s fought through government red tape to build and run successful businesses. He’s created jobs, raised a family, and given back to his community,” Rubio said.

Rubio said with Bernie in the U.S. Senate, Ohioans “will know that they have someone beholden only to them, and that he will fight every day for their families, their communities, and their values.”

Moreno said he looks forward to working with Rubio, Vance, and other conservatives in the U.S. Senate who will “fight for working families.”

Others who have endorsed Moreno include U.S. Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, former U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., Turning Point Action, and more.

Moreno said Rubio “sees clearly what people across Ohio are seeing – ours is the only campaign with the momentum and the vision to restore Ohio’s voice in the U.S. Senate.”

In the first three months of his campaign, Moreno raised over $2.2 million, according to NBC.
