SARASOTA (FLV) – Lake County Republican Party Chair Anthony Sabatini did not have enough support for Republican Party of Florida executive committee members to formally cast a “no-confidence” vote regarding Ronna McDaniel as RNC Chair.

Sabatini, who recently became chair of the Lake County Republican Party, garnered enough support for Chair Joe Gruters to call a special meeting in Sarasota.

McDaniel has faced criticism for the 2022 election cycle resulting in “extremely unimpressive election results for the GOP in the last 3 election cycles.”

However, only 71 members of the Republican Party of Florida met Friday so members could not formally vote to oppose McDaniel.

In December, Sabatini had 30 members of the executive committee sign onto his petition against McDaniel to require the chairman call a special meeting. Some of the signees included U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz and Evan Power. Sabatini believes Harmeet Dhillon should serve as the RNC chair.

Gruters had previously endorsed McDaniel, calling her a “successful RNC Chair & the party would be well served by her continued leadership.”
