TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Sen. Bryan Avila, R-Hialeah Gardens, notched the endorsement of Republican Senate leadership for reelection to District 39.

The endorsements came from Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, R-Naples, Senate President-Designate Ben Albritton, R-Bartow, and Sens. Jim Boyd, R-Bradenton, and Jay Trumbull R-Panama City.

“As an officer in the Florida Army National Guard and a college professor, Bryan Avila knows first hand what’s at stake in the fight to strengthen our economy and increase access to opportunity for all Floridians,” the group of senators said.

Avila faces no primary challenger, but will face Democrat Charles A. Lewis I in November’s election.

“Bryan has been a champion for parental rights, safer communities and smaller government,” they said. “We are proud to endorse Bryan Avila because the hard working Floridians of District 39 deserve his continued leadership in the Florida Senate.”

District 39 covers a northern part of Miami-Dade County.

Avila has represented the district since 2022. It was previously held by Republican Sen. Anna Maria Rodriguez, who now holds District 40.

In the 2020 election, the district voted for the Republican by around 13%. However, it was redistricted to encompass a separate, smaller geographical area beginning in November 2022.

Avila’s challenger – Lewis – has not reported any campaign fundraising, according to state records.

On the other hand, Avila has reported over $55,000 in fundraising, and has spent over $10,000.
