Tuesday, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) called on the Biden Administration to ban TikTok in the United States.

Senator Rubio’s call to ban the video-sharing app comes after it was revealed that the Chinese Comunist Party bought a stake in its parent company’s subsidiary and took one of three seats on the board of directors.

Rubio is concerned that TikTok, which is now partly owned by the Chinese Communist Party, poses a serious threat to the privacy of American citizens and the national security of the United States.

“I am calling on the Biden Administration to ban TikTok in the United States.” Rubio continued. “The Chinese Communist Party now officially owns part of TikTok’s parent company. It poses a serious security threat to American users. This is dangerous and Biden must take action to protect the millions of Americans who are at risk.”

Senator Rubio’s call to ban TikTok comes after he introduced the Adversarial Platform Prevention Act in October 2020. This bill would “establish a framework of standards that must be met before a high-risk, foreign-based app is allowed to operate on American telecommunications networks and devices.”
