ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Florida Rep. Tom Leek, R-Ormond Beach, picked up endorsements from two more Florida GOP lawmakers Friday for Senate District 7.

The endorsements came from Sens. Danny Burgess, R-Zephyrhills, and Alexis Calatayud, R-Miami.

“Tom Leek is a true conservative whose significant public service to his community and the state of Florida is unrivaled only by his commitment to his constituents,” Burgess said. “His sound fiscal policies, upholding the principles and values in making Florida the envy of the nation, is why I am endorsing his candidacy for the Florida Senate.”

“From opposite ends of the state, Tom Leek and I share a deep commitment to improving the lives of those we serve,” Calatayud said. “I have witnessed him go to bat for his community – and all Floridians, for that matter – on countless occasions, and I have no doubt he will bring that same passion and determination to the Florida Senate. I enthusiastically offer him my full endorsement.”

Leek also gained the endorsement of Sarasota Republican Sen. Joe Gruters this week, and Bradenton Republican Sen. Jim Boyd.

“I am tremendously proud to have the endorsement of Senators Burgess and Calatayud in my candidacy for the State Senate,” Leek said Friday. “These strong leaders have represented their constituents well and I look forward to working with them in the Senate.”

Leek faces a primary challenger in former St. Johns County Sheriff David Shoar.

Leek has gained the endorsement of several prominent Florida Republicans for the seat, including Gov. Ron DeSantis, Attorney General Ashley Moody, Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis, Senate President-Designate Ben Albritton, R-Bartow, House Speaker Paul Renner, R-Palm Coast, Sen. Jay Collins, R-Tampa, the sheriffs from his district, and others.

The current Florida representative has also been facing attacks stemming from left-wing donors to politicians like President Joe Biden, former President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and others.

The district covers St. Johns, Putman, Flagler and northern Volusia County. The primary is on Aug. 20, and general election on Nov. 5.
