JACKSONVILLE (FLV) – Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters endorsed Republican candidate Raul Arias for Jacksonville City Council District 11.

Arias is running to replace termed-out City Council Member Danny Becton for the March 21 election.

“Raul Arias is the only candidate for District 11 who has the integrity and principles that we can trust on the City Council. He is a Navy Veteran, local business owner, and a strong advocate for the men and women of law enforcement. I am proud to support Raul Arias for City Council and encourage fellow conservatives to do the same,” Waters said.

Some of Arias’ priorities for his campaign include supporting law enforcement and public safety, prioritizing infrastructure and boosting the economy with a “commonsense conservative approach.”

“I am truly honored to have the endorsement of Jacksonville’s great Sheriff. As the next City Councilman from District 11, I will work closely with the Sheriff’s Office to combat crime and I will make sure our officers have the resources they need to keep us safe,” Arias said.

Arias is a Mayoral appointee to the Housing and Community Development Commission and is an active volunteer with the Jacksonville Police Athletic League.

He was assigned to the USS Boone at Naval Station Mayport in 2005 and after completing military service, he made Jacksonville his home. He has owned and operated Mambos Cuban Café since 2007, creating jobs and helping the local economy. Mambos has since grown to multiple restaurants across Jacksonville.

Sheriff Waters joins a list of endorsers for the Arias campaign including the Jacksonville Association of Firefighters, JAXBIZ of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce and Republican City Council Members Nick Howland, Kevin Carrico and Rory Diamond.

Arias’ opponents for City Council District 11 include Republicans Norman Brewer and Annalyn Velasquez-Insco and Democract Ramon Day.
