MIAMI (FLV) – Miami hit record breaking temperatures over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, according to The National Weather Service.

NWS reports Miami hit 89 degrees on Nov 27., making it the hottest on record for that date.

The previous record was 87 degrees, set back in 1940.

Naples reached temperatures in the low 80s and the Keys saw temps in the mid 80s.

In Fort Lauderdale, Thanksgiving temperatures are normally around 80 degrees, said Sammy Hadi, the meteorologist for Miami’s National Weather Service.

“Basically we’re getting Everglades air. It’s coming from the swamp. It’s hot, it’s moist, it’s muggy,” Hadi said.

A weak cold front will bring the temperatures down and a second front is predicted for South Florida late this week.
