ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – St. Petersburg Police arrested 18-year-old Christian Maier for allegedly doing “donut-burnouts” on the Pride street mural located at the Central Avenue and 25th Street roundabout.

According to the press release, police said Maier was seen on video on May 22, at 3:45 a.m., allegedly “recklessly maneuvering his car in a way to leave several tire marks across the mural and causing significant damage.”

Police previously posted the video of the incident and asked the public to contact them with information.

Police said he will be charged with felony criminal mischief and racing on a street.

A second incident was also documented by police. During an incident on May 17, police said a truck “accelerated through the mural.” The investigation is still ongoing.

On social media, some people have called for Gov. Ron DeSantis to pardon Maier.

The account @EndWokeness, with over 2.6 million followers, said “Governor DeSantis, pardon this kid.”

Another big account, Ian Miles Cheong (@stillgray) said “Christian Maier is a hero.”
