TALLAHASSEE (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis’ press secretary called out the media’s hypocrisy for reporting DeSantis as a “bully” when he asked students to take masks off but refusing to mention Democrat Stacey Abrams when a video surfaced of her making the same request to take a picture.

Press Secretary Christina Pushaw retweeted a video of Democrat candidate for Governor in Georgia, Stacey Abrams, posing for a picture with a child. The child is wearing a mask when Abrams asks the student to take it off.

“You mind taking your mask off for a second?” Abrams asked.

Once the mask was off, Abrams asked the child’s mom for approval.

However, Governor DeSantis received different treatment in the media a few months prior in March of 2022. The news cycle was swarmed with stories of Democrats calling DeSantis a “bully” and “berating” students when he asked them to take off their masks before a press conference.

“You don’t have to wear those masks,” DeSantis said as he took to the stage. “Please take them off. Honestly it’s not doing anything. We’ve got to stop with this COVID theater. So, if you want to wear it, fine but this is ridiculous.”

DeSantis was chastised for days in the media for those comments.

“Can’t wait for the national media to lose their collective minds over this and screech that she is a ‘bully’… oh wait she’s a Democrat therefore nothing she does can be criticized!” Pushaw said on Twitter.

In February of 2022, Abrams received some blowback for sharing a photo of her smiling maskless with masked students. However, she quickly deleted that picture.
