JACUMBA HOT SPRINGS, Calif. – Gov. Ron DeSantis said the U.S. is being “invaded” in response to a video released Monday depicting a “large group of migrants” mainly composed of Chinese nationals crossing the border.

The video was released by NewsNation correspondent Jorge Ventura.

It shows a group of men lined up with their belongings. Ventura reported that they bridged through open gaps in the U.S. southern border barrier.

“This is not normal,” DeSantis said. “Our country is being invaded.”

“We cannot afford to take half measures or make excuses on this issue. We must stop the invasion, take the fight to the cartels, and finally build the border wall,” he said. “As your Commander-in-Chief, I will get it done.”

DeSantis’ presidential border campaign platform involves using the military against Mexican drug cartels and along the southern border to stop the “invasion.”

“What I’ve seen at the border is just humiliating as a country – that we can’t even enforce the territorial integrity of this nation,” DeSantis said over the summer.

On the wall, DeSantis plans to use the the military to assist border patrol in guarding the region until physical barriers can be completed.

His campaign pointed to “600 miles” that are “open” along the border with Mexico.

Data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection shows encounters for the latter part of 2023 starkly outpacing 2021 and 2022.
