Tourist development collections for April reach almost $8 million in Hillsborough County

TAMPA, Fla. (FLV) – Hillsborough County reported its highest month ever recorded in tourist development tax collections in April, hitting almost $8 million.

The tourist development tax is a 6% tax on the total rental amount collected from anyone who rents or leases hotels, apartment hotels, motels, resort motels, apartments, apartment motels, rooming houses, tourist or trailer camps, vessels, or condominiums for a period of six months or less.

Hillsborough County’s taxable hotel revenue collections for April hit $7,791,631, an 11.2% increase over the previous record set in 2022, according to Visit Tampa Bay.

“Receiving these incredible numbers just in time for National Travel and Tourism Week further displays what can happen when the Tampa Bay tourism community and stakeholders come together to make our destination thrive,” President and CEO of Visit Tampa Bay Santiago C. Corrada said.

Tampa Bay’s total bed tax collections for the fiscal year to $40,556,297, marking the 24th consecutive month of record bed tax collections and hotel taxable revenue.

Taxable hotel revenue for March totaled $129,974,269, a 10.5% increase over the previous record set in the fiscal year 2022.

Hotel occupancy for April came in at 76.4% with the average daily rate coming in at $189.93 and revenue per available room hitting $145.11.

“Tampa Bay’s tourism industry is flourishing, and we look forward to keeping the momentum going as we welcome in significant citywide conventions and meetings this summer,” Corrada said.

Through collaboration with over 750 partners, Visit Tampa Bay aims to bring the destination major business that contributes to Tampa Bay’s economic impact like national meetings and conventions and large-scale events.
