MIAMI – Tropical Storm Tammy formed near the Caribbean Sea this week and is forecasted to make a curve north this weekend, the National Hurricane Center said.

The center said at its 8 a.m. ET advisory that Tammy will form into a hurricane after ramming across Lesser Antilles. Those areas are under tropical storm watches as of Thursday morning, but the center said more may be issued.

By Sunday, the cyclone is forecasted to be traveling north, and from there, clear from landfall in the U.S. It is projected to curve away from the mainland U.S. in the center’s five-day forecast, but the cone could change.

The American and European weather models are in agreement on the storm curving north and east, away from the U.S.

Atlantic hurricane season ends Nov. 30.
