WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Former President Donald Trump attacked former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley by calling her a “birdbrain” and arguing she doesn’t have the talent or temperament to be president.

“MAGA, or I, will never go for Birdbrain Nikki Haley,” he said. “No loyalty, plenty of lies!”

Trump noted that Haley vowed to never run against him in the presidency and praised him for doing an “outstanding job.”

“She even came to Mar-a-Lago with her family, ‘bearing gifts,’” he said. “Anyway, Birdbrain doesn’t have the TALENT or TEMPERAMENT to do the job.”

The Trump campaign also attacked Haley for positive comments she made about Hillary Clinton in 2012.

“The reason I actually ran for office is because of Hillary Clinton,” she said in a New York Times interview about her election as governor.

Haley served as governor of South Carolina before she was appointed to the position of U.S. ambassador to the United Nations by then-President Donald Trump.

She stepped down from her role in 2018 after she expressed interest in taking a break from Washington politics.

Trump described her as a “fantastic person” who had “done an incredible job” as she publicly announced her resignation. He welcomed the idea of her joining his administration again in the future.

“She’s done a fantastic job and we’ve done a fantastic job together. We’ve solved a lot of problems and we’re in the process of solving a lot of problems,” Trump said.

Haley was the second major Republican figure to announce her candidacy for president in February.

She directed several attacks towards some of her other opponents during the first and second debate.

Notably, she sparred with entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., on the issues of political experience and state politics, respectively.

According to recent polling, 29.8% of American have a favorable view of Haley, while 34.9% have an unfavorable view.
