I am so excited and grateful to be here. Here, writing an article for you, the intelligent and curious reader. So, who exactly am I and why am I here writing this for you to read?

Well, let me tell you. My name is Karoline Tyrrell and I am a first year student in Florida Gulf Coast University’s Honors College. I had the great pleasure of attending the Lincoln Reagan dinner with the FGCU College Conservatives in Fort Myers, Florida in the beginning of February, where I had the priceless opportunity to meet Brendon Leslie. He proposed a spontaneously designed internship that I found impossible to reject. I had a good feeling about this internship because of the energy, love, and devotion that was clearly put into UnBossed Reporting.

I have been raised around conservative values and ethics my entire life. I grew up on Sanibel Island, a small island in Southwest Florida where most of the residents are retired. I have had the ability to listen to successful and intelligent people my entire life. I have heard their life advice and guidance, and have chosen to soak it in. I used to wonder—is it a coincidence that all of these people are fervent conservative-capitalists who had to work for everything they had earned in life? Spoiler alert, the answer is no!

I have developed (what I would call) a clear and in depth personal understanding of conservatism. Sadly, many people, particularly in my age group, have not. They often times say they do not have time to do their research. They do not have time to educate themselves. If your future were dependent on what is happening in the world around us, wouldn’t you take a glance into what is going on? The mentality of many people my age and most millennials is that this is not our issue, but instead the issue of the politicians who are in power now.

This is a very misguided line of thinking. The liberal voices in today’s media are the ones that prevail because those voices are what as seen as “popular” amongst young people. I will tell you first-hand that this is not true. The silent majority is a thing. It is a thing amongst many young conservatives. Many would ask, why are they silent? Often times young conservatives are scared into silence because places, like college campuses, are not conservative-friendly whatsoever. Very few find the confidence to share their voice. This is another large reason why I decided it was important to take this internship, this opportunity to begin showing people my age that they should start speaking about their beliefs and thoughts without fear, and that they are not alone.

This is why. This is why I decided to take on this position with UnBossed Reporting. Many semi-educated conservatives my age think they are the minority. Sadly, this is how many of them are swayed into believing beliefs and values that are not their own, something that happens too often after being tossed through the machine that is the university system. I am here to tell you that you can speak. You have a voice that does not need to “seem” popular. I know this full well. How? Because I am one of those voices.

This is something you will learn about me if you follow me on this journey. I believe in truth, transparency, and following your values. I will tell you my point of view based upon my conservative ethics and values. I am beyond blessed to be enabled to do this through UnBossed Reporting. I feel as though the phrase “UnBossed” is taken to another level. I am not being told what to write or dictated what to say other than to portray I believe as a conservative. I look forward to sharing and showing my unique perspective as a thoughtful 18-year-old conservative, liberal arts major in the secular and downright radical university system, as most of these systems are. I am overwhelmingly excited to voice my opinions on a larger scale, thanks to UnBossed Reporting.
