TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Agricultural Commissioner Wilton Simpson tossed shade on the effort to have taxpayers foot the bill of student loans, referencing student protestors and calling them “spoiled brats.”

“Hard working Floridians will get up and go to work today,” Simpson said. “They shouldn’t have to pay off these spoiled brats’ student loans.”

The agriculture commissioner’s post included a large encampment of student protestors set up with tents on a campus.

Simpson’s post is in reference to loan forgiveness efforts by President Joe Biden, who has been working to institute the policy.

Florida Republican Rep. Byron Donalds was recently swarmed by pro-Palestinian protestors at George Washington University.

Donalds could be seen walking on campus around a mob of students, some of whom held “Free Palestine” signs while trying to answer questions from reporters.

While surrounded, Donalds called on Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser to support George Washington University, saying it was her responsibility.

Donalds also referred to the encampment at the school as “trespassing.”

Other Florida lawmakers, including Rep. Cory Mills, contrasted Florida’s approach to protests from places like George Washington University.

Speaking to Fox News, Mills pointed to the response of University of Florida President Ben Sasse.

A former Nebraska senator, Sasse has prohibited the use of bullhorns, tents and encampments on Florida’s campus, all which could lead to expulsion.

“I think that there’s a fine line to walk with ensuring that everyone has the right to free, nonviolent protesting and being able to have their voice heard, and what you’re seeing where there is intimidation, they’re stopping Jewish students from being able to even attend their classes,” Mills said.

Mills also wondered if the protests could be having financial support.

A recent statement from Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott’s office shared a report stating that ActBlue, a Democratic fundraising platform, has “helped facilitate donations to the anti-Israel encampment at Michigan State University.”

The release also noted ActBlue was “set to receive a 3.95 percent cut of those donations, according to its stated policies.”

“ActBlue has made their position clear: they will support fundraising for those calling for the genocide of the Jewish people,” Scott spokesman Will Hampson said. “They will also take a cut of money meant for pro-Hamas groups who are actively terrorizing Jewish students on college campuses across the country.”

Scott said Democrats across the country, including Biden, have received donations via ActBlue.

Debbie Murcasel-Powell, Scott’s likely democratic opponent for Senate, also has received donations via the fundraising platform.

“Will Joe Biden or Congresswoman Mucarsel-Powell stop using ActBlue or call on them to stop accepting pro-terrorist money,” Hampson said. “Or will her broke campaign, which only has peanuts cash on hand, force her to stay silent in the face of calls for terrorism and genocide?”
