TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Grassroots advocacy group Americans for Prosperity Action, also known as AFP Action, issued its second round of Florida legislative endorsements on Tuesday.

The endorsements backed 11 incumbent Republican lawmakers and three Republican candidates running for open or Democratic-controlled seats.

“Our grassroots base knows what issues Florida families are focused on, and we’re confident that electing or re-electing these key leaders will help drive the change we need in our state,” AFP Action Florida Senior Advisor Skylar Zander said.

“From making it easier to open a business, fund your child’s education, or afford your first home, we hope to see these policy champions successful so that Florida can continue to be a place of economic prosperity and freedom,” he added.

The incumbent endorsements were Republican Reps. Danny Alvarez of Riverview, Jenifer Canady of Lakeland, Tom Fabricio of Miami Lakes, Mike Giolambardo of Cape Coral, Jeff Holcomb of Spring Hill, Traci Koster of Tampa, Luaren Melo of Naples, Rachel Plakon of Lake Mary, Alex Rizo of Hialeah, John Snyder of Stuart and Brad Yeager of New Port Richey.

The organization took time to list its reasoning as to why it chose to support each incumbent, often highlighting each representatives’ legislative wins during their time in office.

Its rationale included things like Plakon’s support of education expansion, Koster’s work in criminal justice reform and Fabricio’s commitment to healthcare, particularly telehealth expansion.

Additionally, AFP Action endorsed Erika Booth, who’s running for House District 35 against Rep. Tom Keen, D-Orlando, as well as Nick Primrose and Judson Sapp who are running for the open seats of House Districts 18 and 20, respectively.

Keen barely defeated Booth in a special election for House District 35 earlier in the year, resulting in a Democratic flip of the seat.

Booth currently faces one primary opponent before she can participate in a rematch with Keen.

District 18 is currently held by Rep. Cyndi Stevenson, R-St. Augustine, and District 20 is held by Rep. Bobby Payne, R-Palatka.

Primrose and Sapp both face Republican and Democratic opposition for the open seats.

The organization pointed to Booth’s experience on the Osceola County School Board and her commitment to economic progress and healthcare reform as major factors in backing her candidacy.

The second round of endorsements came after the organization put its support behind candidates for the state Senate, including Tallahassee Republican Sen. Corey Simon’s hotly contested reelection efforts.
