WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Columbia announced on Friday that a man from Bradenton has pleaded guilty this week to a felony count of assaulting law enforcement at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Authorities said that John Anthony Schubert III, 47, committed a felony offense of assaulting, resisting or impeding officers at the Capitol.

Schubert “joined a large crowd that had gathered near the Peace Monument” and breached authorities’ barricades to enter the West Plaza, authorities said.

He then allegedly joined rioters in “fighting a heavily outnumbered group of law enforcement” who were trying to keep them at bay.

At 2:21 p.m. that day, Schubert purportedly entered the Capitol via a broken window next to the Senate Wing Door – then helping his parents in as well.

The FBI had arrested Schubert over two years after the Jan. 6, 2021 riots, on Oct. 4, 2023.

The agency said the judge in the case – U.S. District Judge Christopher R. Cooper – is set to sentence Schubert on July 11.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Columbia added that since the riots, over 1,387 people have been charged nationwide. Of those, 493 have reportedly involved felony charges of assaulting or “impeding” law enforcement.
