SOUTHWEST FLORIDA (FLV) – As the post-Hurricane Ian recovery process rapidly progresses in Southwest Florida, major energy provider Florida Power & Light announced a new power restoration timeline for residents still waiting for their lights to come back on.

“The crews continue to make great progress and we are able to adjust our original estimated restoration time from Sunday to Friday in the hardest hit areas,” they announced on Facebook Monday.

FPL said the timeline does not apply to customers who cannot safely accept power due to structural or other damage.

Power Restoration Timeline (95%):

  • Tuesday, Oct. 4: Manatee (north), Seminole, and Volusia Counties
  • Wednesday, Oct. 5: Collier, Manatee (south), Sarasota (north of Fruitville Road)
  • Friday, Oct. 7: Charlotte, DeSoto, Glades, Hendry, Highlands, Lee, Sarasota (South of Fruitville Road)

Counties that have already been restored include: Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Brevard, Broward, Clay, Columbia, Flagler, Hardee, Indian River, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Nassau, Okeechobee, Palm Beach, Putman, St. Johns, St. Lucie, Suwannee, and Union.

FPL issued an update to customers saying over 80% have been restored. Power is set to be “essentially restored” to 95% of customers by Oct. 7.

At the height of Ian’s impact, nearly 3 million Floridians went without power. At the time of reporting, that number is down to 583,661. View updated totals here.
