TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – The Claremont Institute, a conservative think tank based in Upland, California, said it is expanding state activity to Florida to use the state as “the first template for any red state in America.”

In a press release, the institute said several reasons are motivating their decision to open their new Florida hub of activity in Tallahassee.

“We are bringing Claremont Institute state activity to Florida for a few reasons, not least of which is the bold executive and legislative leadership in the Sunshine State,” they said.

“We are excited to help continue this work by educating allies and leaders alike on effective policy strategies to combat the woke regime in Florida and America at large,” the institute said.

Ryan P. Williams, the president of the Claremont Institute, praised Gov. Ron DeSantis for “fearless intellectual and political leadership.”

“Protecting and restoring the American way of life is the most important work Governors and state legislators can do right now,” he said. “Governor DeSantis has shown fearless intellectual and political leadership in the fight against woke leftism.”

“We are thrilled to help him and his legislative allies continue this important work as part of our ongoing efforts across the states by creating a new Tallahassee-based position of Senior Director of State Coalition,” Williams said.

The institute’s mission is to “restore the principles of the American Founding to their rightful, preeminent authority in our national life.

They said their think tank “teaches, writes, and litigates.”

“Rather than concentrate on policy like many other think tanks, the Claremont Institute teaches the principles and ideas that shape policy over time to the few that will go on to positions of leadership in media, politics, law, speechwriting, and academia,” they said on their website.

The institute’s expansion into Florida came as DeSantis’ second term kicked into high gear with both a Special Session and Regular Session making progress in early 2023.

Legislation like tax relief, permitless carry, and a budget with billions of dollars in surplus are some of the top proposals being considered by Tallahassee legislators.

On top of conservative policies making their way through the state government, DeSantis also celebrated Florida Republicans expanding their lead over Democrats by 100,000 since his 2022 landslide – showing no sign of slowing down.

“In 2018, Democrats outnumbered Republicans by nearly 300,000. By Election Day 2022, Republicans outnumbered Democrats by 300,000. Today, we can announce that Republicans outnumber Democrats by 400,000,” the governor announced. “Freedom is here to stay.”
